Creates by Gem was born from a need to create.

Growing up, creativity was always part of my life. Whether I was painting, sewing, or trying my hand at a new craft, I was constantly making something. As an adult, however, I found myself following a career path I never expected, spending many years working in the corporate & charity sector. While rewarding in its own way, it left little room for the creative expression I had always enjoyed.

Eventually, I realised that creative itch wasn't going away.

A few years ago, I discovered the art of reverse glass painting and gilding and immediately fell in love with the process. Not only did I find a medium that combined craftsmanship, design, and artistry, but I also became passionate about helping to preserve a traditional craft that is increasingly rare in the modern world.

My work combines contemporary design with influences drawn from military propaganda, social realism, and mid-century modern aesthetics. I am particularly interested in bold compositions, strong graphic elements, and the interplay between light, reflection, and precious materials.

Handmade, Always

Every piece begins as an idea and is thoughtfully designed and created by hand. Using traditional reverse glass painting and gilding techniques, each artwork is carefully crafted and finished with precious metals, with some pieces incorporating abalone shell to add depth, colour, and movement.

In a world of mass production, these traditional processes offer something different. They are slower, more deliberate, and rooted in craftsmanship. As a result, every artwork is unique—no two pieces are ever exactly alike.

The process is just as important as the finished work. From the first sketch to the final gilded detail, each stage is approached with care and attention, ensuring that every piece feels special and genuinely one of a kind.
